"Come and do the conga, conga and the samba."
Yes today is The Wild Carnival Celebration. (pronounced Car-ni-vaul). And Where were we. Well Rick came down with the trots (diarrhea) and I decided to go to the mall. Seriously, everything except the mall and the temple were closed, even our Area offices.. It was so nice and quiet this morning. So some of the couples called and asked if we would like to take the BUS that is free for those of us over 60,(yes there are a few advantages.). So I went and left my poor husband asleep and took off with the gang. The BUS was a kick. Of course it was packed since everyone loves to go to the Mall when everything else is closed. I jumped on and then zoom he took off so quick and so fast the only thing to grab was the little Brazilian man in front of me. Woo, I stared laughing and so did he and then I apologized to his in Portuguese and told him..after all it is carnival and the whole front of the bus started to laugh. Oh well, Brazil here I come. We go to this beautiful Mall that had Applebees and Outback Steakhouse in it and found nothing opened until noon. So they all wanted to see a movie in English. called UNKNOWN with Liam Neeson, and the girlfriend from National Treasure. The only one that was rated for 12 year olds and above. It was really exciting and no bad language or sex. They won't allow movies with bad words in them, or they take them out. Then we went to Applebees and had dinner. Tilapia and spinich sauce and shrimp, with water for 45 reais. About 38.00 american I about died. They say you just have to pretend it is like Monopoly, money come and money go. Ugh. other wise do don't go anywhere or see anything.
That is another story. I had been couped up in the house for 2 days because I got sick on Sunday right after I played my flute for the prelude just before Mission Conference, with a disease the Brazilians call "Labirintite" or "drunk disease." Rick called it Labrynthitis. It is a virus that gets in the inner ear and makes you lose your balance and also makes you sick to your stomach. I couldn't even walk to the bathroom during the rest song. Rick almost had to carry me.
Since we had been fasting since 3:00 on Saturday, there was nothing in my stomach except bile to toss. Did is again after conference, so the MTC Nurse gave me some Dramamine and I slept on a couch for a while. The MTC Pres came in and said he had just had it last week for two days and then one of the other Senior couples had it for 3 days. The Brazilian Sisters of the Branch Pres. told me they had it and it is quite common here. I was so disappointed because I was supposed to speak in the fireside with Rick at 7:00pm at the MTC. I had my talk all done in Portuguese and was so anxious to give it. But "the best laid plans of mice and men..." He also spoke in Portuguese for 45 minutes. I;m sure I will get another chance. Probably more than I really will want. The Brazilian missionaries are really starting to come in now so we will probably be put in a Portuguese Branch sometime soon.
The weather is still unseasonably cool (20 degrees cooler than normal) but we love it. The nights are great for sleeping. We have a little green bird that sits out on our ledge every morning and sqawks to wake us up. They really get talking to each other too. We even saw a parrot out on our ledge. Fun. Well in spite of all our bugs (sick ones) we have collected this week we are doing pretty good. If Rick feels better we will most likely go to the Temple again tomorrow, only this time I think we will do endowments. I don;t think my knees will do another 3 hour stint at sealings.
Um forte abraco! (One BIG Hug) for you all.
The Gospel is true and life would be pretty awful without it.
